The Curlew Gallery, Wales' smallest art space, opened its doors in June 2023 in a quiet garden just outside Brecon. Artist David Goff Eveleigh built and runs the gallery himself, using recycled corrugated iron sheets from local farms. At 8x6 feet, it's a simple shed topped with a solar panel for off-grid power. Set in a lush valley with stunning views of Pen y Fan, the spot is wrapped in wildflowers, ancient trees, and birdsong. It sits at the center of a close-knit community of local creators, making it a natural hub for shared inspiration.

The name comes from the curlew, a slender wading bird known for its wild, bubbling call that echoes across Welsh moors. In Celtic tales, curlews stand for change and guard hidden wild places—much like the gallery's nod to nature's quiet shifts. With their habitats shrinking fast, the name serves as a gentle reminder to protect these voices of the land. It echoes Eveleigh's own focus as a painter, where he explores nature through bold expressionism and vibrant color.

Inside, the walls highlight Eveleigh's paintings alongside occasional displays from nearby artists, like photographer Paul Edgley. The space keeps things intimate, with room for just four visitors at a time to pause and take it all in. It's straightforward—no crowds or rush—just a chance to connect with art that feels fresh and rooted in the everyday magic around us.

Surrounded by meadow paths and a supportive network of makers, the gallery encourages unhurried visits. It's a place for quiet connections, where creativity meets the valley's steady rhythm. The community vibe shines through, with artists swapping ideas over tea in a spot that honors both solitude and togetherness.

Visits happen by appointment only, keeping things personal and peaceful. Book via email or phone to arrange a slot, whether solo, with friends, or family. Step through the door, take a deep breath, and let the space—and its wild spirit—do the rest.
